I am inspired by nature and the sights and sounds on or around my farm in York, Maine. Seeking quiet, contemplation, and solitude, treks to the islands off the Maine coast have also become an important aspect of my creative process. These annual excursions provide opportunities to observe and discover secrets hidden in the abundant natural beauty of island life. In creating my drawings, prints, or paintings, I love to dwell in the moment, explore the interplay of light and shadow, and examine the conflict or harmony created by the positive and negative spaces. The passage of time and relationships suggested, remembered, or real also play a role in the thematic structure of my work. Add to this the endless possibilities of mark making, media, and experimentation, and the creation of art has become a life-long pursuit.
